Sports, Fitness, & Recreation Programs

                Healthy Habits— empowers youth ages 6-8, 9-12 and 13-18 to eat right.  This generation-
                changing, life-enhancing program covers the power of choice, calories, vitamins and
                minerals, the food pyramid and appropriate portion size.

 

Daily Challenges—taking a systematic approach, this component boosts Clubs’ traditional physical activities to a higher level by providing sports and fitness activities for all youth – boys and girls, athletically gifted and those talented in other areas, children and teens alike. Daily Fitness Challenges: six challenges give youth at every age the chance to play longer and harder at different games – from jumping rope to basketball and creating games of their own.

 

Running Club—youth enjoy both the mental and physical benefits of running and learn the importance of conditioning to avoid injuries.  Youth participate in local running races.

 

Gym Games—through participation in traditional and non-traditional games, members increase team building skills, physical fitness and self-esteem.

 

Sports Clinicsclinics encourage basic skill development in volleyball, softball, t-ball, basketball, street hockey and soccer.  Clinics enhance members’ ability to perform the necessary skills in addition to the rules and regulations of each sport.

 

Team Sportsparticipation in team sports such as basketball, volleyball, and floor hockey enable members to compete, developing their athletic skills, sports integrity, physical fitness, leadership and self-esteem.

 

Sports Leaguesin-house leagues in soccer, basketball, volleyball, street hockey, flag football and softball are conducted. Participation in the YMCA and City Parks and Recreation leagues also provide members the opportunity to develop physical abilities and sports integrity.                           

 

Athletic Tournamentsmembers participate in tournaments both sponsored by the Club and sponsored by other Boys & Girls Clubs in the State.  Tournaments provide a venue for members to challenge themselves and grow in athletic and team building skills, leadership and self-esteem.

 

Gamesroom- offers age-appropriate lessons on positive social skills.  Kids can play board and table games, compete in tournaments, learn new games, or just visit with friends.  Gamesroom staff help members learn skills while teaching them how to play fair and work together.

 

Annual Sports, Fitness, & Recreation Events

 

Girls & Women in Sports Dayevent focused on celebrating the participation, success and accomplishments of girls and women athletes.  The Club partners with CSU-P’s women’s athletic teams and athletes to provide sports clinics and games with female Club members.
