2. Open when kids need us most.
Every day after school, thousands of local children go home to empty houses. We know that the hours after school, until parents arrive home, is the peak time for juvenile crime and experimentation with drugs, alcohol, cigarettes and sex. Kids who are home alone also have more accidents and injuries, behavior problems and low academic achievement. But when kids participate in after school programs, like Boys & Girls Clubs, they are less likely to skip class, use drugs, smoke, drink alcohol or engage in sexual activity.
3. Affordable for the kids who need us most.
More than 90% of Club members live at or below the poverty level; the Club offers their families year-round afterschool and summer programming for an annual registration fee of only $22.
4. Are focused on providing what kids need and want most.
The Club offers a safe environment where young people can have fun and be themselves; interesting, constructive activities that channel their youthful energy in challenging pursuits; and adults who respect and listen to them.
